Philadelphia Yaz AttorneysThe lawyers at Heiligman & Mogul are evaluating possible cases for anyone who has experienced personal injuries after use of Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella. If you or a loved one has suffered serious debilitating medical problems or even death please contact us. First manufacterd by the Berlex company Yaz, was soon owned and sold by Bayer. Most birth control consists of both estrogen as well as progestin. Yaz contains a very common estrogenic compound called "ethinyl estradiol." What makes Yaz uncommon to its contraceptive counterparts is the use of a new type of progestin called "drospirenone." This progestin is found in Ocella and Yasmin also manufactured by Bayer. Marketing ads highlighted the benefits of taking Yaz and minimized its disadvantages, by 2009 Yaz was the highest selling birth control in America. Two false and misleading ads for Yaz featured the songs "No, We're not Gonna Take It,", and "Goodbye to You." Both ads feature women punching, kicking, and releasing balloons inscribed with words that are commonly associated with pre menstrual symptoms when in fact Yaz is only approved for pre menstrual dysphoric disorder, (PMDD). After fifty reported deaths were filed through the FDA Federal Regulators wrote Bayer a warning letter insisting that Yaz change their misleading ads to ones that gave consumers a clear indication of symptoms the pill could relieve, and the possibility of life threatening ones that could be obtained. "The FDA said that the ads contained fast-moving images and background music, that might be distracting to viewers. These elements were aired while information about Yaz side effects were described. The FDA found the ads particularly troubling, especially the serious life threatening consequences." "Drospirenone," the progestin used in Yaz, is also a diuretic. This can cause severe dehydration to those who use Yaz as well as increased levels of potassium in the blood. Potassium controls cardiac rhythm in the body and when it becomes imbalanced life threatening side effects ensue. These include but are not limited to:
By 2007 reports of women as young as 17 died while using Yaz. Millions of women may have already taken Yaz, Yasmin, or Ocella. The attorneys at Feldman and Pinto are dedicated to holding Bayer responsible for their misleading ads, and their failure to disclose life threatening side effects.
